A steady day during which we climbed out of the canal basin and got some first glimpses of rolling country before descending through a
mining district.
One of the natural curiosities of the day was this one of several 'fish ball's encountered in the canal. Consisting of densely packed baby fish I assume this is a survival strategy. We were told the canal has been infested with a particularly virulent catfish - maybe these are they?
A pleasant night was passed at a transport corridor where the main road N70, canal du centre, main train line and the Eurovelo 6 (Atlantic to the Black Sea cycle) routes all coincide. In a rather nice twist Eurovelists and holidaymaking car drivers share the same motel in the absence of other accomodation.
