D21 Saint Boil to Chateau de Nobles

Our first rain in 3 weeks cycling ( almost enough to put on the raincoat/cape) saw us across rolling vineyards to our treat weekend retreat chez Bertrand , the perfect host who supplies le vin bland frais and lent us 'le voiture du chien' (qui est mort) to allow all important access to the restaurants of Chapaize (for Madame who doesn't cycle out to dinner after the day is done....much to Bertrand's sympathetique understanding.

The photos for the weekend say it all - Sunday though a rest day permitted a short 10k spin to visit the market and enjoy a picnic - what might be termed a cyclist's holiday.

Do note the obligatory Rapunzle re-enactment...A long white towel standing in for legendary locks - gives a sense of the scale of the tower!

This Catholic country even puts crosses on standing stones!

The antiquity of nearby Chapaize is shown by the straight roman road which leads to its church a fantastic mixture of styles with what looks like an Italianate campanile. In fact we learn the masons did indeed come from Lombardy which demonstrates the cosmopolitan character of Southern Burgundy!
